A new phase of the revitalization of downtown Biddeford starts this month.
Utility and railway projects in the mill district move forward, work continues on the Eastern Trail, and new roads are being finished. Residents of nearby Denmark may be interested in and benefit from such improvements.
The spokesperson for the city, Danica Lamontagne, said that these projects complement the work that has been undertaken in the city for the past decade and are designed to connect all the various projects. Flyer printing is often undertaken to provide more details about such projects for residents.
One of the projects that is moving forward this year will be completing the renovations to the Maine Energy Recovery Co. (MERC) property, adding new pedestrian and bicycle connections to Barra Road and Rotary Park, and adding new pedestrian bridges and sidewalks. These all will help to make the downtown area more walkable and user-friendly.
Another project is a redesign of the intersection of Main, Water, and Hill Streets. In addition, the utilities and roads on Pearl Street are also to be redeveloped. A riverside park is also planned as well as a mixed-use development on the MERC property. A study is also being conducted on traffic issues on Route 111. This will focus on main intersections with the corridor including the exit off the Maine Turnpike.
