Fryeburg selected for participation in revitalization program

The Southern Maine Planning and Development Commission (SMPDC) has selected Fryeburg as one of 10 towns in the county to improve outdoor recreation opportunities as part of a Main Street revitalization program.

Residents of Denmark may want to follow what happens as a result of this program and take advantage of the potential new recreational opportunities.

The community will be helped by a planning team from the Environmental Protection Association (EPA) to create a plan that will increase the economy of outdoor recreation to provide environmentally friendly community development and sustainable resource management. Some of the recommendations could include attracting economic opportunities related to outdoor activities, increasing the amenities in the downtown, and building new trail connections.

Poster printing can be used to keep the community abreast of recommended developments and their benefits for the town.

Paul Schumacher, Executive Direct of the of the SMPDC, said that this will be important for Fryeburg as it will create a more walkable, thriving Main Street, use spaces that have been vacant for many years, and encourage outdoor recreation.

Fryeburg Town Manager, Katie Hayley, expressed her pleasure in being selected by the federal government to participate in this program. The town is motivated to make such improvements that would boost business and increase the number of people coming to Fryeburg for recreation.
