James St. Pierre of Fryeburg Academy has been named to the Inaugural Class of Teacher Leader Fellows of the Maine Department of Education.
This recognition will enable St. Pierre and other Teacher Leader Fellows to provide educators across the state of Maine, including those in Denmark, with weekly updates on materials and resources, to maintain web pages with informative and rich content, and to host monthly professional development opportunities. Such endeavors can benefit from local printing services to create Brochures, pamphlets, and other printed materials that can be distributed throughout the educator community.
St. Pierre said that being a teacher leader means that he can connect with others and help people to connect with each other. He added that he can now gather the experiences and ideas of teachers in the state and share them in efficient, practical, and manageable ways. He commented that it is a privilege to be able to bring together educators whose knowledge can elevate all students.
St. Pierre has been teaching at Fryeburg Academy for 30 years. He teaches English and biology, and has been the chair of the English department. He is also an adjunct professor at Western Maine Community College and Granite State College, where he has taught for 20 years.
Fryeburg Academy is a private day and boarding school offering grades 9 through 12, as well as a post-graduate year.
