Fryeburg airport opens to the public for classes

Eastern Slope Aviation Academy (ESAA) in Fryeburg at the Eastern Slope Airport will be opening its membership to the public this summer.

This membership will enable the ESAA to offer to those living in Western Maine, including Denmark and the Mount Washington Valley, an introduction to aviation careers.

Training will take place using a Cessna 172 and there are plans to add more aircrafts as the ESAA receives more funding. There are several flight instructors with certificates who will be teaching students at the Academy. There will also be opportunities for those who may want to try out flying.

President of the Aviation Academy, Ed Bergeron, said many locals have expressed an interest in flying and in careers in aviation. He added that there are also those who are licensed and may not have flown in many years and want to get up-to-date and return to flying, so they will be starting a program for that as well.

Speakers and programs will be offered on a regular basis to those looking into such careers as operating drones, aviation engineering, and air traffic control. Also under consideration are fly-ins and programs on mountain flying and aviation weather. Flyer printing is often used to inform the public of such programs, education, and events.

Membership to the public will begin on July 1.
