A new parking garage is currently under construction in Biddeford on Lincoln Street.
It will have 640 spaces and is expected to relieve some of the existing pressures on the downtown area as redevelopment of the mill progresses. Alan Casavant, mayor of Biddeford, said that this project demonstrates that Biddeford is a desirable community and will be the catalyst for future development. Residents of Denmark may now be more tempted to travel to the city by car.
Print shops are often hired to create Flyers and other materials to inform residents and those in neighboring communities of such projects, letting them know of reasons to visit.
James Bennett, the City Manager, has entered into an agreement with Treadwell Franklin Infrastructure Capital (TFIC), which will build and manage the parking garage and other surface parking lots in the area. TFIC is partnering with Amber Infrastructure Group to complete these projects as well as the RiverWalk project.
No residential property taxes will be used, nor will the city’s tax rate be impacted to complete the garage. Fees collected from the operation of the surface lots and the parking garage in the downtown area and Tax Increment Financing revenues will be contributed by the city to this construction. Amber Infrastructure Group will have a lease for 25 years on the newly constructed parking garage.
