Gaithersburg yoga studio teaches basics and beyond

Flying Buddha Aerial Yoga in Gaithersburg will offer two classes on the first weekend of February.

Former gymnast, aerialist, and movement instructor Tonya Letunoyskaya will guide Contortion for Beginners. The workshop covers the flexibility in the back and hips needed to practice advanced and aerial yoga.

Students will learn how to stretch and work their shoulders and back in a safe and symmetrical way. The class will start with a thorough warm-up followed by the wheel pose, then practice in waterfall moves. The class will end with a question-and-answer forum.

Nine people can take the class in the studio, but it will also be available on Zoom. Registration is $65.

The next day, pairs will have a chance to visit the studio and learn aerial yoga together. Traci Tufano will teach students the basics of aerial yoga and various positions that include two people. It is geared toward new customers interested trying aerial yoga with a friend.

Registration is $45. Only four pairs will be admitted due to social distancing guidelines.

The address of the studio is 814 West Diamond Avenue Suite 100. Contortion for Beginners will take place on February 6 from 2:00 pm to 3:15 pm. Partner Aerial Yoga follows on February 7, from 3:00 pm to 4:15 pm.
