A Gaithersburg event that will see local sewers come together to show foster kids they care has been planned, and anyone who wants to thread their needles in support of this cause is welcome.
The American Sewing Guild’s Maryland Chapter has organized a session of the Duffel Bag Project. This sees sewers craft Bags for kids entering the state’s foster care system, as otherwise, if they did not have luggage of their own, they would have to carry their personal belongings in a trash bag. There is no charge to be a part of this opportunity to sit, sew and socialize, and Capital Quilts will be the host.
Those who would like to join in the fun of the occasion are asked to bring along their sewing machine and its instructional manual. The materials needed to make the Bags will be provided, but the participants are asked to supply their own snacks and a lunch for the activity.
The organizers of the program noted that, by December 2017, the group has produced more than 600 duffel Bags, and it is hoping to add to this number. Flyer printing can be used to create an assortment of marketing materials for this type of activity, which can be placed in sewing shops and other locations.
The sit and sew will be held on May 7 at 15926 Luanne Drive. More details can be found on the Maryland ASG website.
