Gaithersburg fitness center teaches safe powerlifting

CrossFit Hardshells of Gaithersburg will present a ClinicalAthlete certification course on powerlifting next month.

The class will consist of two days’ learning about ways to enhance deadlifts, back squats, and bench presses. It will go into detail on positions, movement, and technique. The course will also highlight how to control some of the injuries frequent with powerlifting.

Based on scientific evidence, ClinicalAthlete Powerlifting information is designed for medical, sports, and fitness professionals, as well as students who want to learn about better powerlifting with reduced risk of injury.

Now that the deadline for early bird tickets has passed, general admission is $419 for students and $499 for non-students. Monthly payment plans are available. Finishing the training qualifies the student as a Certified ClinicalAthlete Coach of Powerlifting.

The Board of Certification for Certified Athletic Trainers is set to approve the course as a credit toward Continuing Education. Professionals in other areas can ask their field's certification officials for approval before or after the course, which might mean the National Strength and Conditioning Association, American College of Sports Medicine, National Academy of Sports Medicine, or certification boards for physical therapists and chiropractors. Certification boards often use Letterheads so applicants know their correspondence is official.

The course will take place on December 5 and 6 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at CrossFit Hardshells, located in 16778 Oakmount Avenue.
