Colorful workshop to help family food choices

To kids, learning how to eat healthy can sound like a daunting and unappealing proposition, but an upcoming Gaithersburg workshop hopes to change that attitude.

The Casey Community Center will soon be offering a program that explores the fun of healthy eating, and it will introduce the kids who take part to phytonutrients and why they are important. It will use the rainbow as a guide, encouraging families to seek out brightly colored fruits and vegetables to add to their diet – hence the program being called “Eating the Rainbow”.

This session is intended to be for parents and kids to attend together, and there is no charge for the adults. The registration fee for children from ages four to twelve is $25 each, and the instruction will be supplied by Amada Tumulty. The goal is to teach kids how to make healthy food choices even when mom and dad are not around, and also to improve overall nutrition for the rest of the family.

The organizer of the class explained that it will teach the learners how to use the “Rainbow” checklist to incorporate more phytonutrients into their meals. Print shops can craft items like these to aid the public in achieving better health.

The Eating the Rainbow workshop will be held on October 2. Its registration system is open, and the Casey Community Center will be the venue for the function.
