From August 5 until September 20, visual and performing arts center the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg will undergo repairs and will be closed to the public.
According to officials, the city has a practice of not acquiring debt, so the money to fund the project will come from a Capital Improvement Project reserved over time. The project will consist of renewing the mortar points of the outside brick, restore the roof, and replace the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system in the building.
The replacement HVAC system will be quieter and more efficient, which is essential to a music and performing arts organization. To finalize the system, the Arts Barn will close in the fall for several days.
The Arts Barn was originally a horse stable constructed in 1900. In 2002, it became a visual and performing arts center. The venue seats nearly 100 people and has featured resident artist studios, workshops, camps, art galleries, a theater for performances, and other creative endeavors.
It is adjacent to Kentlands Mansion on Kent Square Road. Normal business hours during the week are 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, or 1:30 pm until 5:30 pm on Saturdays.
Many performing and visual arts centers use poster printing to advertise the various events at the venue, such as plays, exhibits, available workshops, and camp opportunities. Featured artists could design some of the Posters.
