A ground breaking attended by County Executive Stuart Pittman, as well as state and county leaders, was recently held for a new community center in northwestern Ann Arundel County – less than a dozen miles from Crofton.
The facility, which has been one of Pittman’s primary initiatives, will be a new site for the regional Boys & Girls Club, as well as a senior activity center, community space, and gymnasium. The Severn Intergenerational Center is the result of partnerships with a variety of community stakeholders in the Severn area, such as the Department of Aging and Disabilities, Arundel Community Development Services (ACDS), and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.
Informing the public of services available at city or county facilities is more effectively accomplished if color photos are included with text, which is why this endeavor frequently involves working with a brochure printing service.
The center, to be located in Severn at 1160 Reece Road next to Van Bokkelen Elementary School, will be an intergenerational facility. The estimated cost of the facility is $15.7m with an $800,000 grant included by Governor Hogan via the state’s Department of Aging and another $2m grant awarded by the Senate.
The role of project developer is being handled by ACDS. The Severn Center, according to organizers should open in 2023.
