CFAAC awards grants to combat COVID-19

The CFAAC will be diverting funds to help those in Anne Arundel towns and cities such as Crofton to deal with the economic effects brought on by COVID-19.

The Community Crisis Response Fund was created in 2018 by CFAAC (Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County). The goal with this fund was to give organizations in Anne Arundel access to reasonable financial help following a disaster in the community.

All of the money raised this through this crisis fund is now being diverted for COVID-19 purposes. Some individuals and companies are using Corporate Gifts and grants to help local communities.

CFAAC closed its first round of applications in the middle of April. 29 nonprofit organizations in the county were awarded $60,000 worth of grants. The first round of grants was directed towards organizations that deal with food security and other basic human needs. CFAAC decided to concentrate on these areas because these are the issues that must be tackled quickly.

The grants were given to nonprofits who are helping vulnerable people in the community in unique ways. Many of the people being supported by these nonprofits are cancer patients who have just returned home, victims of assault, and people with disabilities.

The second round of grantmaking is scheduled to open soon. Interested parties can go to the CFAAC website to submit an application for consideration. How the funds are used will change according to which needs are the most pressing for the people of Anne Arundel.
