Anne Arundel Schools urges bus signup

In an attempt to get a jump on organizing next fall’s school bus routes, the Anne Arundel County Public School (AACPS) district is asking parents to claim their child’s seat as soon as possible.

With an enrollment of over 600,000 students, school officials are eager to get a head start on planning countywide bus routes. Crofton parents whose children attend the county public school system and who live in designated school bus zone are asked to fill out the bus registration form. Those who have not received a form are asked to contact the school system.

Motivating the public requires first providing them with the facts and background of the situation at hand; Print shops may assist with this by printing the information as well as aiding with distribution.

Bob Mosier, AACPS spokesman, explained that the district is required to cover over 600 bus routes a day. Last fall’s driver shortage and strike has made the district wary of making detail plans for next school year’s transportation. By having parents register now, the AACPS expects to increase transportation efficiency. As Mosier said:

"We may have a bus this year that might have 20 students on it. So, we can combine that with another route that might be underserved."

As of last Friday, May 13, 60% of parents with children who qualify for transportation to school have claimed seats for their children.
