Following Alice Cain’s resignation from her post on the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee, a search for Annapolis’s next state delegate has begun.
Cain resigned in the middle of March due to family issues that came up. According to state law, the governor has 30 days to select a replacement and the officials expect that it will be done soon. If the committee is not able to find a replacement in the next 30 days, the Governor can pick anyone of his choosing as long as his selection is from District 30A and is registered as a Democrat.
When Cain resigned, she gave an interview explaining:
“My family needs me in ways that were unforeseen when I launched my campaign, and it is time for me to turn my focus back to them in a way that is necessary- and that serving in the legislature simply does not allow.”
Candidates who want to be considered for the seat can send in their applications, along with their résumés and letters of interest, to annarundeldems@gmail.com. The committee will go over the applications during a meeting scheduled for April 16 in Gambrills near Crofton. People in new official positions often enlist business card printing services when they start.
Whoever is chosen to replace Cain will serve the rest of her term until 2022. The candidate will have to run again in 2020 if he or she wishes to keep the seat.
