Zipcar, the car-sharing network, has just entered the Worcester market, bringing six cars to the city as part of an initial effort.
People can reserve a car and pick it up at a designated spot, drive it, and return it for the next person to use. Gas and insurance are included in the price of the service, as are 180 miles per day.
Zipcar has given some of its cars nicknames, including ‘Eldrick’ (a Ford Escape); a Honda Civic called ‘Boopie’, and ‘Raclette’ (a Honda CR-V). The cars may be reserved by the day or for a matter of hours, and all are parked in the downtown area. Reservations can be made by phone, online, or by using Zipcar's app.
Zipcar apparently decided to expand its Worcester presence because of the success it has had with colleges in the Worcester area. The cars have been rented by students from Worcester State University, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, and Clark College, among others, which has made the Zipcars more visible to the community as a whole.
Zipcar also offers special rates to business owners who rent their cars during the week, via its Zipcar for Business (Z4B) program.
Efforts like this can benefit if company officials work with a brochure printing company, which can create Brochures that explain the service, and feature photos of the cars available for rent.
