Worcester selects inaugural legacy businesses

The first 24 businesses have been selected by the city of Worcester for its new Legacy Business program.

There were 309 nominations that covered 62 eligible businesses. Helping to score the businesses were the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Preservation Worcester, and the Museum of Worcester along with the city.

The businesses which were selected for this program have operated in Worcester for an average of 70 years and many of them are run by the same families over multiple generations. More details about such programs and the businesses selected can be made known throughout a city with flyer printing.

Eric Batista, city manager, congratulated these businesses for their ingenuity and longevity, qualities which have enabled them to remain in business for many years.

The executive director of the Museum of Worcester, Eric Butler, said these businesses represent a significant part of the history of the city. He added that what makes the history of Worcester so rich are the stories of the families and individuals who have lead these local businesses with personal care and innovative spirits for their community and their customers.

Among the businesses selected for this program are Parkway Diner, Kenmore Diner, Boulevard Diner, Ralph's Chadwick Square Diner, and Miss Worcester Diner. The Worcester Lunch Car Company played a key role in producing these establishments.

The Legacy Business class of 2026 will be honored by the city ceremony later this summer.at an award ceremony.
