The Worcester Teen Poetry Slam for those between 13 and 19 years old will be held later this month. This event is hosted by a partnership between Mass Poetry and The White Room and the Cultural Development Division of the city of Worcester.
Participants will have the chance to perform two poems that are original and will be judged by local well-known literary personalities that will include Nicole “Nic” Jean Turner, the Poet Laureate of Worcester. The participants who are among the top six will then be able to join a group of teens on behalf of Worcester in the next round of the competition, which is the Teen Spoken Word Festival for the entire state.
Flyer printing can be used throughout a city to promote such competitions and their significance for young people.
Samara Tang-Rainwater, Youth Poet Laureate of Worcester, said that this is a tremendous opportunity to connect and perform with other young poets. Tang-Rainwater added that she felt confident, inspired, and eager to keep growing as an artist being surrounded by peers who are as passionate as she is about poetry.
The White Room on Green Street will host the Worcester Teen Poetry Slam on the 10th March from 6pm to 9 pm. The statewide Teen Spoken Word Festival will take place at Emerson College on Saturday 28th March and Sunday 29th March.
