The Greater Worcester Community Foundation (GWCF) has awarded grants of $10,000 to 20 organizations in Worcester to hold festivals of a cultural nature that celebrate the artistic traditions and cultural diversity of the city.
The Worcester Neighborhood Arts and Creativity Grants and the grants from the Worcester Cultural Festival will fund storytelling efforts, neighborhood arts projects, and festivals throughout the city this year. GWCF is partnering with the city to administer these projects.
The Juneteenth Festival organized by The Black Heritage Committee and Hot Night in the City organized by the Worcester Center for Crafts are among the events to be held over the summer.
Among the events that will be funded include Day of Play Family Festival by Edward Street Child Service in September, the Día de los Muertos Festival of Casita Cultura Latina in October, and in December the Holiday Art Festival of The Hanover Theatre.
Grants of up to $5,000 were awarded by the Worcester Neighborhood Arts and Creativity Grants program for community initiatives that feature public art, engagement of residents, and community storytelling. Among these projects are Voices of the Neighborhood storytelling series in Main South, artist demonstrations and live music at Market On Exchange, youth arts workshops in Plumley Village, and an art project created by the community in the Piedmont neighborhood.
Poster printing can be used throughout a city to promote such events that advance the cultural plan of a city.
