A new grant program has been announced by the Business and Community Development Division of the city of Worcester for businesses based in the city.
The goal of the MWBE Construction Advancement Program is to support certified women-owned and minority-owned businesses based in Worcester that are involved in construction or sectors related to it, thus affording them better opportunities for contracting.
News of such programs can be disseminated throughout a city with flyer printing.
To be eligible for this program, businesses need to be certified by the Massachusetts Supplier Diversity Office or other third parties certifying agencies, in the construction industry or one related to construction, an active for-profit organization within the city of Worcester, and in good standing with the city and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Selected businesses will need to provide reporting on the grant and how the funds will be used.
A sum of between $10,000 and $25,000 will be given to each eligible business. Requests will be capped at 25% of annual expenses up to $25,000.
Eric D. Batista, city manager, said that this is an exciting program that aligns with the efforts of the city to support and invest in diverse neighborhood scale commerce.
Applications opened in late September and will be accepted on a rolling basis until the funds in the program are exhausted.
