Families looking for holiday postcard printing that’s a bit more star-studded than normal may be excited in Worcester. According to recent casting calls, the independently produced drama film ‘The Greens Are Gone’ has begun filming in the town this month.
Stars of the film include Catherine Keener, Anton Yelchin, Kiernan Shipka (of Mad Men), Riley Keough, Cary Elwes, Annie Starke, Ryan Eggold, and Lois Smith. The film follows the story of a mother, played by Keener, pushed to the edge by her children.
Michael Kristoff, the producer of the film, explains that two of the siblings in the story are currently suffering from bipolar disorder, played by Yelchin and Shipka. The youngest sibling is working to unearth the family’s past, and drama of another sibling’s disappearance is at the forefront of the story. By the film’s final act, it brings the entire family, including older siblings portrayed by Keough and Starke, together in the end.
Filming began at Ralph’s Chadwick Square Diner, and continues in Worcester and surrounding areas for several weeks.
Director Peer Pedersen has his directorial debut in this film, though he was an executive producer on ‘Live at the Foxes Den’ and ‘Lucky Them’. Pederson also has co-producer credits on ‘Finders Keepers’, an upcoming documentary. The movie is also the film debut of Stark, who is the daughter of actress Glenn Close.
