Worcester to develop plan for safe streets

An amount of $200,000 has been awarded to the city of Worcester to develop a Safety Action Plan for the transportation network in the city.

The funds come from the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program of the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT). The USDOT recently adopted a Safe System approach, meaning the plan will be able to establish and prioritize steps designed to reduce fatal crashes and serious injuries. The goal is to completely eliminate these most serious outcomes of crashes through changes in infrastructure and behavior.

Poster printing services are often employed throughout a city so that residents become aware of any new developments and improvements.

Eric Batista, City Manager, said that the creation of safe streets for all people is particularly important for the city of Worcester. He expressed his gratitude for the support from the USDOT and added that he is looking forward to additional partnerships as the city looks to address traffic safety in the community.

The city’s commitment to the Safety Action Plan will establish criteria for those looking to apply for funding of projects in future rounds of the SS4A program. The program has been given $5bn to improve the safety of the streets across the country for the next five years.

Worcester has a new Department of Transportation and Mobility, of which this program is a major initiative.
