For the 15th year, Worcester residents will be walking to raise funds for the fight against scleroderma very soon.
The walk, known as ‘Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma’, is being organized by the Worcester Scleroderma Support Group of the Scleroderma Foundation New England (SFNE). Scleroderma is an autoimmune disease that presently has no cure.
This particular walk was started by Eric Magnuson 15 years ago in honor of his mother, Deb, who is a member of the group. She helped coordinate this year's event, and says her son started it for two reasons: to make people aware of the illness, and to raise money to try and find a cure. The first walk drew fewer than 100 people, but now more than 300 take part.
The walk is a 5K that encompasses Indian Lake. Since this year is a milestone year, special events are planned to celebrate this anniversary. There will be performances by the Jazziak Dance Troop, as well as activities like face painting suitable for youngsters. After the walk, lunch will be provided by a number of Worcester fast-food restaurants.
The walk is set for May 7, with registration beginning at 10:00 am and the walk starting at noon. Events like this can benefit if organizers work with a brochure printing company to create Booklets that explain the progress made in finding a cure, and suggesting a contribution.
