What's Happening in Worcester, MA…

Worcester bakery changing hands

One of the longest-running businesses in Worcester is set to have new owners.

Crown Bakery & Cafe is a Worcester landmark that opened over 50 years ago. Now, the owner, Jon Lundstrom, who took over the bakery from his father Ake in 1994, is leaving, and the business will be in the hands of Jen LaPointe.

LaPointe has been working at Crown Bakery since 2000, where she decorates cakes. She will run the business with her husband, Edward, according to an article on Telegram.com.

LaPointe plans to shut the bakery down for a short time to make a few renovations. She aims to make a few minor changes to the store's retail section, and will change the lunch menu slightly. She hopes to make the area in the front of the store ‘more user-friendly’, particularly for patrons who drop in to have lunch.

The Crown has won awards for its baking, in particular the Swedish pastries that have earned the bakery its reputation as one of the best in Worcester. Some Scandinavian specialties, like the Princess Torte, are made only at Crown, and those items will remain available.

Lundstrom plans to step down on July 1, after which LaPointe will close the business for the renovations, which should take three weeks. It will be open again before the end of July, with a grand reopening planned.

Events like this can benefit if companies decorate with festive banners to celebrate special occasions.
