Second chicken eatery planned for Worcester
Chick-fil-A is looking to build a second location in Worcester at what was once a Walgreens pharmacy in Stafford Street.
The site was once home to the store of Stone & Berg Lumber, which was demolished in 2007. Walgreens took over the store until 2023, when it closed as part of a consolidation of Walgreens stores across the country.
Chick-fil-A is looking to develop a restaurant spanning 5,331 square feet with two lanes for drive-thru orders, seating both indoors and outdoors, and 77 parking spaces. Such sites often turn to banner printing to inform residents of projects that are under development.
Joshua Lee, a lawyer from Bowditch & Dewey (a firm in Worcester that is representing Chick-fil-A), said that the restaurant is looking for this many parking spaces as its other location in the city on Gold Star Boulevard is often near capacity. He added that the improvements made at the other Worcester location required a great deal of funding.
The first standalone restaurant opened by Chick-fil-A in Massachusetts was in 2014 in Chicopee.
Further discussion on this project will take place at the meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday, November 25 to get more details on the parking plan and for the Department of Transportation and Mobility of the city to explore the impact of the location on pedestrians and traffic.
