Salisbury Street starts to bridge the gap

Construction is underway on a new landscaping initiative and accessible walkway on the Worcester Art Museum’s Salisbury Street side.

The bridge, according to GoLocalWorcester, will significantly improve access for visitors, and nearby changes will add parking spaces for those visitors with disabilities. The new access point, designed by Kulapat Yantrasast, should also add an inviting pedestrian entrance to the building.

Director Matthias Waschek told GoLocal that the bridge was intended to be symbolic of the museum’s openness and its welcoming nature towards visitors. The Salisbury Street doors, while historic, were not sufficiently accessible, so the plan is for the new bridge to address that issue.

These changes are brought about as part of the Vision 2020 plan for the Museum. With a broad focus of growing and transforming the audience of the Museum, the plan reviews both infrastructure changes and programmatic adjustments that are hoped to increase visitors to the museum, as well as support families and youthful audiences.

The construction project has an expected completion date in spring of 2015. During the construction period, both the Salisbury Street entrance and the nearby driveway are intended to remain open. While parking spaces closes to the Salisbury Street entrance will be closed during construction, Museum parking on Lancaster Street will remain available.

Many companies, during construction of this story, use banner printing on construction walls or equipment to advertise their services.
