Reading month shows Worcesters love of literature

The child literacy campaign in Worcester is dubbed ‘Worcester: the City that Reads’, and campaign organizers have said it is once again sponsoring the yearly ‘Love a Book Month’ throughout February.

As part of this effort, organizers have given children Books that they may take home. In addition, local organizations that work with children, as well as local schools, have scheduled activities and reading events throughout February. Also, the City that Reads campaign has given Posters with the ‘Love a Book Month’ design to all Worcester elementary schools, so they can display them until the end of the month.

John Monfredo, who is a member of the Worcester School Committee, is also co-chair of the City that Reads campaign, along with Anne-Marie, his wife. He said that the goal of the effort is to encourage literacy throughout Worcester. He added that since Valentine's Day is in February, and reading can be characterized as the “heart” of learning, the theme works particularly well during this month. He also hopes that businesses, as well as the city schools, will encourage people to read this month and that, as a result, they will keep reading all year.

Efforts like this can benefit from the use of Posters, but organizers can also work with newsletter printing companies, which can create interesting letters for parents and educators about literacy in the community.
