The U.S. Post Office on Main Street in Worcester is the site of a new exhibit of photos by Randle Stock.
Stock, who is a Worcester photographer, had his work chosen for the project during a juried competition organized by Preservation Worcester.
The exhibit, which is called ‘Favorite Places’, is a series of 20 portraits Stock has taken of Worcester residents who are community activists. He photographed each of the subjects interacting with the historical Worcester building he or she likes best. Since he took the photos at locations throughout the city, the pictures show the wide variety of building materials, architectural styles, and designs that go to make up the city's built environment.
Each of the photos is also accompanied by a written statement in which the subjects explain what the building in the photo means to them.
Funding for the project came partly from the a local agency, the Worcester Arts Council, which draws support from the state level via the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Preservation Worcester, for its part, works to protect sites, buildings, and neighborhoods that represent the architecture, history, and culture of the city.
The exhibit is open now, and will run through the middle of January 2018.
Organizers of this type of exhibit can enhance the experience for all concerned by working with a flyer printing company to create a handout that lists the works in the presentation.
