A group of 20 new firefighters were sworn in recently at North High School in Worcester, where 17 of them will serve with the Worcester Fire Department. Three others will join the Marlboro Fire Department.
The newly-sworn officers just completed a 15-week course of training, according to an article on Telegram.com.
Michael J. Lavoie, Worcester's fire chief, said the new recruits will join a department that has changed and grown along with Worcester. He added that he, Edward M. Augustus Jr., the city manager; and Steven M. Sargent, the police chief, believe that increasing the safety of the public is a vital part of this growth and development.
Lavoie noted that this class, designated Class 2018-1, is the third class to go through training in three years, and there will be a fourth class trained in 2019. The chief also said that increasing the number of personnel serving the city as first responders increases safety for both them and the public.
The chief and other members of the department also had some advice for the new recruits. Lavoie urged them to continue to seek out opportunities to continue their training, and don't pass it by because “you think you know it all”.
On occasions like this, officials might consider working with a business card printing company to create appropriate cards for the new recruits.
