New program for startups in Worcester

Worcester has submitted a proposal to the Small Business Administration (SBA) with the objective of assisting local firms.

Within Massachusetts, Boston has set the pace in this area of policy. However, other parts of the state could catch up and this may boost demand for digital business cards in Worcester. Peter Dunn, a manager at the local Economic Development office, has told the Worcester Telegram:

“Small businesses are the backbone of any local economy. New startups incite economic activity, provide employment opportunities, and are often on the forefront of technology and innovation, which positions Worcester well for the future.”

Dunn has explained that new entrepreneurs can be confused by administrative tasks. Hence they can benefit from concrete assistance. This may involve giving them tips on how to interact with various municipal departments. The SBA has made a commitment to this approach by providing incentives to city halls to make life less complicated for businesses.

The SBA has opted to hold a competition to promote policy innovation, and is offering prizes to organizations which streamline the administrative responsibilities of startups. It has also chosen to award a big prize to anybody who can come up with a transferable solution to the obstacles concerned.

Local business Jessica Walsh has said how starting a firm can be daunting. She has explained how getting necessary permits under the existing regulatory system was far from straightforward.
