New housing developments come to fruition in Worcester

The South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) has a plan to build apartments for those residents who are chronically homeless.

It will be building 20 studio apartments at its Martin Luther King Jr. Opportunity Center near the intersection of Park Avenue and Chandler Street in Worcester.

Such developments can turn to brochure printing to provide more details about apartments and their features.

It is one of 12 projects in the state that will share a Permanent Supportive Housing Grant that totals about $60m. There will also be supportive care in the development for issues such as mental health and addiction provided through Eliot Community Services based in Lexington. The city of Worcester will also be providing funding for the project through its federal stimulus allotment. The Department of Housing and Community Development will also be contributing to the funding of the project.

The project is one of many others in the city designed to get people off the streets and into more permanent residences. One of the major housing projects is the renovation of the Quality Inn on Oriol Drive. There will be 90 units in this building for people with extremely low incomes. There will be 33 studios and 57 one-bedroom units. Another development is one of 24 units on Lewis Street, which is currently under construction.
