New biomanufacturing building being built in Worcester

A new building, part of The Reactory on Belmont Hill in Worcester, is currently under construction in a biomanufacturing park.

This will be the second building for which construction is underway at the site of the former Worcester State Hospital. Banner printing is often used at such sites to inform the community of upcoming projects.

President and CEO of the Worcester Business Development Corp. (WBDC), Craig Blais, expressed his excitement for The Reactory, and what it means locally, state-wide, and nationally. Spanning 5,000 square feet and housing multiple tenants, it will become part of a larger project that will comprise 470,000 square feet and three more sites. Galaxy Life Sciences LLC is the master developer working together with the WBDC and the two will build out the remaining sites.

Once it is completed, the building will be dedicated to biomanufacturing. Michael O’Brien, principal owner of Galaxy Development, said that drugs will be manufactured in the building, which is something he says has been lacking within the job creation process currently taking place in the biosciences industry in the city. Owner of Zicaro Associates Inc., Matthew Zicaro, added that this project will draw people to the area as the biopharmaceutical industry expands in the state.

Blais said the building could be completed in as little as 18 months, meaning an early 2022 opening.
