New bakery opens in Worcester

La Central Bakery and Café is now open in downtown Worcester.

The bakery combines Mexican and Puerto Rican cuisine and has already developed a loyal following. Jessica Ortiz, owner of the bakery with her husband, Jose Rohena, said that there has been support in the community from those from both Puerto Rico and Mexico. She added that she already has many regular customers.

Offered at the bakery are many Puerto Rican pastries and bread, as well as subs, quesadillas, breakfast sandwiches, wraps, and other items. Local print shops can help with creating printed menus of such offerings to help spread the word around town about such unique establishments.

Eric Batista, city manager of Worcester, said that the café reminds him of his native Puerto Rico. He said that not only is this bakery a great asset for the city, but for himself too. He added that as soon as he walks into the bakery he is reminded of home, and it feels like he is on the island.

Executive director of the Downtown Worcester Business Improvement District, Evelyn Darling commented that the bakery is within a short walking distance of city hall and is an excellent addition to the city. Darling added that the people of Worcester are looking for more diverse options and places to eat in the downtown.
