Library card design contest to be held in Worcester

The Worcester Public Library (WPL) is holding a contest this month looking for designs during National Library Card Sign-up Month.

There will be three age groups from which winners will be selected. The groups are youth, which are those 11 years old and younger, teenagers from 12 to 17 years old, and adults who are 18 years of age and older.

Access services coordinator, Kate Sawisch, said that one’s most valuable card is a library card and so it was decided that those from the WPL needed to be redesigned. Sawisch added that the dynamic art of the community was the ideal way that people can leave their mark on the library.

Entries need to be submitted by the end of the month. Artwork can be created on paper using colored pen, pencil, markers, or paint, digital photographs, or generated by computer software. The rules, details, and templates for designs to be submitted are often printed by local print shops to be made available at such libraries.

A committee will select three finalists by category and announced on Friday October 14. The public will then be able to vote on the submissions with voting to end on Monday October 31. The winners will be announced shortly thereafter. The top designs will be featured on limited edition library cards beginning this winter.
