Central Massachusetts college to offer summer musical workshop

Anna Maria College in Paxton will be offering its Summer Music Institute next month designed for high school students. Such musically talented students in Worcester will no doubt want to take advantage of this offering.

Jeff Conner, a member of the faculty, is the organizer of this Institute, which will provide online access for students to performances and classes. Connor, who also teaches at Burncoat High School in Worcester, said that the online format is preferable as an in-person seminar would not allow for being able to bring so many musicians together as it would be too expensive. He added that this format also gives students the opportunity to work with musicians who are part of similar seminars at such places as the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan or the summer workshop in Tanglewood.

The Institute will feature fundamentals classes, masterclasses, leadership clinics, and mini-recitals. More details about daily schedules, costs, and other requirements for such workshops are often provided with brochure printing. A certificate of completion will be sent to each student at the conclusion of the workshop.

Among the artists to be featured at the Institute will be Alexander Iles, a trombonist from Broadway; trumpeter Winston Scott; and composer Frank Ticheli, as well as over a dozen faculty form other colleges and musicians from across the country.

The Summer Music Institute will run from Monday, August 10 through Friday, August 14.
