Artistic projects receive funding for the year
The Worcester Arts Council (WAC) has awarded $219,000 in grant funding to 65 projects in the area for this year. These range from theater performances to murals and festivals.
An appropriation from the state legislature has made most of this money available. Of the $219,000, the WAC received $166,700 from the state and an additional $10,000 from the Creative Worcester Initiative of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation.
Among the recipients of the 2021 grant funding are the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester for a Kids for Social Justice mural; Girls Inc. of Worcester for cultural enrichment for girls in grades kindergarten through 12; WICN Public Radio for a Latin Jazz Now course; and Samuel Martin for Light the Night! Poster printing is often used around a community to announce such funding and many of the projects benefiting from it.
Yasmin Goris, outgoing chair of the WAC, said that the Council is thrilled in being able to offer more funding this year than in previous years. Goris said that the support of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation and the Mass Cultural Council have made it possible to offer these funds, which will benefit many organizations, individuals, local artists, and projects in the area.
Applications for funds for 2022 will be accepted by the WAC beginning in the fall.
