Quincy program to reduce vehicle emissions

A new pilot program designed to lower maintenance and fuel costs, improve air quality for residents, and reduce vehicle emissions has been announced by Cero Global, a clean technology company based in Boston, and the city of Quincy.

Cero Global has a system that is an add-on for vehicles with internal combustion engines and clips into existing components. This enables it to collect operating data in real-time. The intention of the device is to improve fuel economy by three to five percent and reduce tailpipe emissions by more than 60 percent.

Vehicles owned by the city will be equipped with this technology to evaluate any potential savings in municipal operating costs as well as its impact on fuel consumption and emissions.

Included in the pilot will be 10 to 15 vehicles including those from the School Department, Fire department, and Department of Public Works. The pilot will start in the coming months with the first phase lasting about three months. If it is found to be successful, it will be expanded to other areas in following 6 to 12 months.

Flyer printing can spread clear information about such programs and the real benefits they bring to a city.

Mayor Tom Koch said that the city is always looking for ways to make it more efficient and greener and this technology enables the city to make meaningful progress towards that goal.
