Former college in Quincy purchased by city

The campus of the former Eastern Nazarene College has been purchased by the city of Quincy.

The campus spans 27 acres and the purchase includes all the main campus and its 14 buildings as well as 14 residential properties which were owned by the college. The price was $21 million. Eastern Nazarene College was a private college that closed two years ago due to financial issues.

After a sale that was proposed to a private developer fell through last year, Mayor Thomas Koch expressed interest in purchasing the campus. He added that the goal of the purchases is to create opportunities for an asset that is important to the community and to protect the neighborhood. He expressed his appreciation for the team at Eastern Nazarene College in working together with the city on this acquisition, adding that it demonstrates its desire to remain as a cherished neighbor in the community.

Directs emails, public comments from input Forms, and community meetings have produced over 1,600 inputs regarding the future of the property. Some of the comments have been very specific such as saving a certain tree to broader suggestions that include creating a community center, keeping the open space, and repurposing main campus buildings for use by Quincy College.

Local Print shops can help to gather such comments and create various kinds of printed materials to highlight the topmost suggestions for further review by the community.
