College in Quincy welcomes freshman class
Quincy College has enrolled 600 new students this fall, which is an increase of 20 percent over last year.
Scott Pickard, a spokesperson for the college, said this increase can partially be attributed to the full approval status of the nursing program of the college in March. The program was closed for one year beginning in 2018 and then reopened with initial approval status on a smaller scale. Pickard said that now with full approval, veterans can now be accepted into the program with the G.I. Bill.
Pickard said Qunicy College offers two programs in nursing. One is a certificate that takes 10 months to complete and leads to a licensed practical nurse. The other is a program of two years that leads to an associate’s degree in nursing, which enables students to become registered nurses. Brochure printing is often used to provide more information about such well-known programs.
Pickard added that the most popular programs this fall are in the category of health sciences. This category includes physical therapy, pharmacy technology, lab technology, surgical technology, and biology, among others.
Pickard said that last year the college launched a bachelor’s degree program in psychology. He added that the program accepted 200 students this fall. Quincy College also offers programs leading to bachelor’s degrees in computer science and business management.
