Newburyport seafood restaurant plans relocation
The Black Cow restaurant will be moving to a new location on Merrimac Street in Newburyport. Joe Leone, owner of the restaurant, purchased the building when his lease expired at the current location.
The building, made of brick and concrete, is just over 15,000 square feet in size, and has been given noteworthy status by the Historical Commission, as there are few buildings in town made of brick with gambrel roofs.
Leone has purchase a sailboat with a 28-foot-tall mast, which will be an oyster bar. The mast will dominate the first and second floors which will be used for dining and be part of the third floor of office space. Views of the waterfront will be offered by an elevated outdoor seating area.
With more space than the previous location, the Black Cow will be hiring hosts, kitchen staff, servers, bartenders, and many other hospitality positions. Print shops can be hired for situations such as this to print various materials to get the word out to those in the community about such available jobs.
The executive chef, Chris LeClair, will move to the new location as he been its leader of the kitchen for the past 16 years. The menu will be expanded and will include raw bars for a variety of seafood.
Demi Leone, the daughter of Joe Leone, said the new restaurant is expected to open sometime next month.
