The Custom House Maritime Museum in Newburyport is planning several maintenance and repair projects over the next five years, and other ways to improve the facility.
Assistance Director of the Custom House, Sean Palmatier, expressed his excitement about what is to come. He said that overall the Museum is endeavoring to become more modern by examining the maintenance of its collections and its overall operations.
New printed materials are often needed to announce such plans, which are often made known to the public through flyer printing and poster printing.
One of the plans of the museum is to host more events that are smaller and more intimate while also focusing on the more spectacular ones, such as the annual visit of the tall ships. An upcoming exhibit of special interest will be one focusing on American taverns, as they were important social hubs for residents as early as Colonial times and incorporated many elements of everyday life.
From a more strategic standpoint, Palmatier said that the green space behind the museum will be utilized more. There are also plans to host events in cooperation with the Firehouse Center for the Arts and other local venues that have more space than the museum does.
While the museum is currently opened only on the weekends for the winter, the staff is working to updates the galleries, conducting repairs, and organizing collections for the upcoming season.
