Joppa Flats opens new nature shop

The new nature shop at the Joppa Flats Education Center of the Mass Audubon Society is now open.

Located on the Plum Island Turnpike in Newburyport, the shop has Books for children and adults, toys and games with nature themes, and paraphernalia for bird feeding.

One of the featured items is a book called ‘Recipes from Joppa Flats’. Volunteers of the Mass Audubon Society compiled it to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Center.

Also featured at the shop are stock cards with bird photographs snapped by Bill Gette, Director of the Joppa Flats Sanctuary, and Dave Larson, who is Science and Education Coordinator. They are travelers of the world searching for birds for groups of naturalists and take their own pictures of the more exotic and colorful specimens. Their selection includes bald eagles, snowy owls, and other birds that are more indigenous to the Newburyport area. Mass Audubon may have used local Print companies for the production of these cards and other items in its shop.

The Joppa Flats Education Center covers 52 acres and is near the entrance to Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, overlooking the Merrimack River. It provides educational opportunities for exploring the wildlife in the area by means of art exhibits, guided tours, and interpretive displays.

The hours of operation for the center are 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Tuesday through Sunday.
