Workforce training academy receives weatherization course funds

A grant in the amount of $50,000 from the Foundation for MetroWest has been given to Green Jobs Academy (GJA), based in Marlborough, to enable it to offer free weatherization courses to eligible students in the MetroWest area.

GJA is the workforce training program for weatherization of the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC), and is the only regional home weatherization and energy efficient training facility in New England that provides certification and career development courses.

The grant will enable seven students to be placed in a Home Weatherization Boot Camp that will last two weeks. The course will provide students with the skills, knowledge, and certification needed to become an installer in the workforce. Three additional students will be funded by the grant to attend a more comprehensive training program lasting six weeks that will cover concepts for energy auditors and installers. Local Print shops often assist such programs in creating educational materials and other accompanying Brochures and pamphlets.

The Executive Director of the Foundation for MetroWest, Jay Kim, expressed his pride in being able to partner with GJA as it helps the foundation to foster the creation of sustainable clean energy jobs and support its workforce development mission. Kim added that the foundation also values its relationship with SMOC, which it sees as an important part of the community.
