Pizza and ice cream establishment opens in Marlborough
Picco Pizza & Ice Cream is now open in Marlborough. It has been an institution in the South End of Boston since 2004.
The establishment is in what was once the Santander Bank Building on Main Street. It offers both pizza and ice cream. Its pizza dough is homemade with locally milled flour from Ground Up Grains.
Tony Lawrence is a co-owner of Picco with Rachelle Cando. They worked for Picco for many years before they became its owners in 2019. Lawrence is a Marlborough resident and had been looking for a second location closer to home for about two years. He purchased the bank building in July 2024.
A cold ferment sourdough is used to make their pizzas and is charred to maximize flavor. The exterior of the crust is light, tall, crispy, and bubbly while the inside is delicate and creamy. All pizzas are cooked well done so the outside gets caramelized and browns the sugars with a signature char. Milk sourced from local farms is used to make the ice cream. Sweets, toppings, and chips are made in house.
Local print shops can be hired to create colorful flyers and other printed materials with more information about menu items and how they are made.
Picco also offers pastas such as spaghetti and meatballs and macaroni and cheese and salads that include Caesar and a Greek salad with beans. It is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
