Pizza and ice cream restaurant to come to Marlborough
Tony Lawrence, co-owner of Picco Pizza & Ice Cream in the South End of Boston, will be opening another location of his restaurant in Marlborough. It will be on Main Street in an historic building built by what was once People’s United Bank in 1926.
Banner printing can be used at such sites to inform residents of upcoming eateries and their homemade menu items.
“Picco” is short for “Pizza and Ice Cream Company.” Lawrence and Rachelle Cando, his business partner, were employees of the location in the South End for many years, before they became its owners in 2019.
Lawrance wanted to open a second location in the area, and last July he purchased the bank building in downtown Marlborough, which was previously occupied by Santander Bank. The executive director of Marlborough Economic Development Corp., Meredith Harris, expressed her excitement that Picco will be adding to the many other dining options on Main Street.
Renovations are currently underway at the building and include a great deal of plumbing and the construction of a bar around the original bank vault. The vault doors will remain once the original safety deposit boxes are removed. It will have seating for about 100 people.
The hand-carved wood facing the tellers’ windows, the marble floor, and a ceiling in the Italian renaissance revival style will remain. Lawrence said it will be a family-friendly and casual restaurant like the one in Boston.
