An amount of $3.75 million will be awarded to Assabet Valley Vocational High School to develop two new programs. This funding is part of the grants for Career Technical Education programs with a total of $70 million that will be given to 28 schools in the state.
Assabet Valley will use the funds to create two new programs in veterinary services and public safety. Students in the public safety program will be prepared for important roles in emergency response and protection of the community. There will be a mock dispatch center and forensics lab. Municipal EMS and fire departments will partner with the school to provide work-based learning and internships. Community colleges will also collaborate so that students can earn public safety certifications and degrees.
Students will be prepared for entry-level roles in veterinary services and animal care in the veterinary science program. Access to grooming tools, examination tables, and certifications for Approved Veterinary Assistant and Veterinary CPR will be provided through the program.
These programs, as part of the CTE program, give students the skills they need to succeed in the job market of today. Such schools can benefit from brochure printing to provide more details on such program and their curricula.
Superintendent Director of Assabet, Ernest Houle, said that this funding will enable the school to add 160 more students over the next five years with these two new programs.
