Unique sporting event to raise funds this month

The annual Against the Tide multi-sport event of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) will be held later this month at Hopkinton State Park. Residents of Marlborough may want to enter one or more of its activities to help support the prevention of breast cancer.

The event offers two-mile kayaking events, recreational swims of one mile and half a mile, and a half-mile paddleboard. There will also be USATF certified runs and a fitness walk three miles in length along a course lined with trees. Another component is the Aquathon “Splash and Dash” where participants compete and splash in a one-mile swim followed by a dash in one of the runs. There will also be a fun run for kids.

People can participate in up to four of these events, and those of all ages and abilities are welcome. Registration can be on an individual basis or in teams. The fee is $10 for the kids fun run, $25 per student per event activity, and $40 per adult event activity. Additional fundraising efforts are encouraged by participants, which can be promoted through flyer printing.

There will be prizes for the top fundraisers, top finishers in each age group, and the fastest Aquathon, running, and swimming athletes. This event will take place on June 20, beginning with registration at 7:00 am.
