Members of the City Council of Marlborough recently agreed to the purchase of two electric vehicle charging stations.
At a total cost of a little over $12,000, half of the funds will come from a grant from the Massachusetts Electric Vehicle Incentive Program while the rest will come from the capital outlay equipment account of the Department of Public Works (DPW).
Each station can charge two vehicles at a time. One station will be installed on the top floor of the municipal parking garage behind City Hall while the other will be at the headquarters of the DPW.
There will be a four-hour time limit on the use of the charging stations to ensure turnover in their use. Residents will be charged for the use of the stations as it was decided by the Finance Committee that residents should not be able to use city electricity at no cost to charge their vehicles. However, the cost has not yet been determined. One suggestion was $1.00 per hour which translates to 45 cents per kilowatt hour. City employees who use city-owned vehicles will be able to use the service for free.
No firm date has been established as to when these charging stations will be installed.
Flyer printing companies could be used with more information about such charging stations and their cost, once more details have been ironed out.
