In honor of her parents, Alison Grice, a resident of Marlborough, has donated $250,000 to the Marlborough Public Library Foundation.
This donation will benefit the capital campaign of the library for the reconstruction of the main library. To show appreciation of the donation, a community room that seats 200 people will be named for her parents, David and Marion Grice. Local Print shops may be hired to announce such large donations and how they will contribute to a project.
Grice said that the donation was made because everyone in her family enjoyed reading and were frequent patrons of the library. Alison and her sister, Grace, worked in the library as assistants when they were in high school, and her mother was a children’s librarian. Her father was a wildlife biologist and would often conduct presentations at the library for younger audiences.
William Keyles, president of the library foundation, said that David and Marion Grice were actively involved in the city and had a tremendous impact on the community. He said that this donation by their daughter suggests that she will have a similar affect.
The library reconstruction is currently underway. The old Carnegie Library section of the building will be restored and there will be an addition of 16,000 square feet to be completed by the spring of next year.
