The Urban Affairs Committee of the City Council of Marlborough has approved a proposal to build a mixed-use building at the former location of the Rowe Funeral Home in downtown Marlborough.
The building will have 99 residential units, 72 of which will be apartments with one bedroom, while the other 27 have two bedrooms. It would also contain 5,047 square feet of retail space. Such projects often take advantage of banner printing to keep residents informed of their progress.
The site itself will provide 25 parking spaces. JW Capital Partners, LLC., the Boston-based developer, will pay the city $500,000 to help it to create other opportunities for parking that will ease congestion in public parking lots.
Those who speak in favor of this project say that the limited parking will be attractive to people who do not own cars. Boston Scientific Corp. has about 1,000 people who work at its campus in Marlborough and said that the company has many employees who do not own cars and rely on local transportation (which the company sponsors) to get to and from work each day.
Paul Donhauser, Vice President of Global Real Estate for Boston Scientific, said that having these new apartments in downtown Marlborough will help the company in its efforts to recruit more people and provide walkable access to the nightlife and restaurants in downtown Marlborough.
