Marlborough to open work program for seniors

Applications are now open in Marlborough for the Senior Citizen Residential Property Tax Work-Off Program (SCRPT) for 2024.

SCRPT is a program that has been available for many years. It offers qualifying senior citizens in Marlborough the opportunity to earn a property tax credit for one time in return for working for a department in the city.

The program matches departments in the city with seniors who will complete 100 hours of work between April 1 and December 1. Seniors who qualify for this abatement can still receive abatements from other departments.

Among the requirements for this program are minimum age requirements, being a resident of the city for at least five years, income thresholds, and being the legal owner of the home in which they live. Flyer printing can be used to promote such programs throughout a city, along with their requirements and benefits.

Mayor J. Christian Dumais expressed his excitement about opening the SCRPT program this year. He said that this program benefits the city with the skills and wealth of its seniors, while also providing tax relief for this group of people.

Applications for the program will be accepted until Friday, March 22. There will be a lottery on Monday, March 25 at 10:30am to select those for the program. A a maximum of 30 spots can be filled.
